The core functions of LTI are to train middle level professionals in Animal Health and Range Management  and related courses, offer specialized short courses as will be demanded by stakeholders from time to time, impart basic skills to pastoralists on rangelands management, provide consultancy services in the fields of rangelands management and animal health, undertake collaborative research and disseminate research outcomes, manage the institutional farm and mainstream cross cutting issues in training programmes (Gender, HIV/AIDs, drug and substance abuse among others).
